Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light) in western Andalusia runs along the Atlantic coast from Ayamonte near Portugal to the Gibraltar Straits where it meets the Costa del Sol. The city of Cadiz is the oldest in all Europe proving its popularity has stood the test of time. |
Its cleaner Atlantic coast boasts wide sandy beaches, many of which, are sparsely populated and, in general, never have people packed in "sardine" style so commonly seen along the Med coast. |
There are excellent sporting, outdoor and leisure facilities including golf.
This coastal area offers windsurfing (Tarifa being the European capital), kite surfing, fishing, sailing, dolphin watching etc...
The inland scenery is diverse with many protected areas/nature reserves, small white mountain villages (pueblos blancos), pine forests and places of historical and archaeological interest.

This, along with its mild winters and pleasant summers (more than 3,200 sunshine hours per year), is making it an ever more popular area to live and holiday. |
Property prices reflect this interest rising 19% in the past 12 months. Many now recognise the investment potential in this area of increasing popularity
| Above all, we think, biggest plus of living here is the people. Maybe it's the climate, or the local wine and cuisine with a social calendar that goes from a much longer Christmas to Carnival, Easter festivities then on to local fiestas and flamenco fairs to summer activities and so on... |

But the people here (including newcomers) are so friendly and laid back, yet at the same time, full of energy - energy to prioritise enjoying life!
